Guide to 'Installing French Satellite TV in the Uk'

The tables below contain the channels that you can receive from each of the 3 satellites broadcasting French channels. Our package 1a is from the Atlantic Bird satellite, 1b is from Astra 1 and 1c is from the Hotbird series of satellites. I can supply the BIS viewing card if ordered with a complete system, just email me, this card will operate on either the Atlantic Bird or Hotbird satellites. Note from the tables that if you are considering the free channels only , Astra has the largest number of channels, but omits the main French State broadcast channels France 2, France3, France4, France5 and FranceÔ. In France itself the terrestrial broadcast channels include the very popular TF1 which show amongst other things sport and football, however on the satellites above TF1 is encrypted. To add to the possibilities TF1,M6 and W9 are now available from the satellite serving Switzerland free Eurobird9.

All four of the satellites have good strong signals and each can be received alone in all weathers using our 65cm dishes.The Multi dish is basically a toroidal shaped double reflector dish, which is extrordinarily efficient and enables it to pick up several satellites from a wide range of angles. Normally a standard parabolic dish can only receive 2 satellites if the angle between them is less than 15 degrees, our toroidal dish can pick up satellites as far apart as 40 degrees. The 4 satellites described above have an angle between the widest 2 of 24 degrees, so if you wanted all 4 , the MULTI dish is an ideal product. see also EUROPE SPECIAL package

France has a large number of encrypted service providers all with their own viewing packages and cards: BIS ( see below) has a good number of channels and several options. It can be ordered from the Uk. Canal Plus however requires a French address to sign up , register and receive its card, Canal has a large number of package options incl. films and sport. From June this year, France has had a choice of two 'freesat' providers. From Astra there is TNT and from Eutelsat there is FranSat , they both transmit the 18 free french channels and the 4 HD ones, each has its own box and card system, non interchangable ( of course!) . . All the Fransat boxes are MULTI satellite capable, some of the base TNT receivers will only receive Astra1 and are NOT multi sat capable, the later and HD types ARE multi satellite capable, so French+Uk channels and other combinations are possible.The full channel lineup is listed below.

Also included below are two options for customers wanted both Spanish and French channels, these can be received using the TNT box , OR if TF1 is not required , a FTA satellite receiver and Multi dish.

Confused? Need help? I can supply and install both the TNTsat and the FranSat receivers with cards . Designing a system is complex for French tv, there are SD ( standard definition) and HD channel receivers for Fransat and TNT and there are now RECORDING receivers in HD and SD for both Fransat and TNTsat. If you need to combine it with Uk tv or other broadcast the choice is not simple. France has had a lot of recent changes, TF1 which was previously free on satellite is now encrypted and requires a BIS card ( see below ) Please dont confuse the digital transmissions shown on this page with the ANALOGUE satellite which still transmits TF1 free ( due to end in 2010 ) and requires a SECAM colour system TV to view it. .

Card renewal is yearly There is now a Film version of the Card with film channel subscription available If you already have Fransat, the card will work in your receiver ( will NOT work with TNT )

All the free channels from France 1a are available with the FranSat subscription. Encyption type is Fransat-Viaccess only the French Fransat boxes will decode the signal.There are no CAMS available for those with CI satellite receivers. Card renewal is not necessary, the card does not have an expiry date Although slightly more expensive than the TNT sat system, it does have some advantages if you want multi satellite installation. BIS cards will work with this receiver
