The 5402 has been around forever, the current version m3 although having the same or very similar menu system to the original, or even its SD predesessor 5400 and outwardly its appearance is the same, even a bit dated , but it is right up to date hardware wise. The USB socket allows software updates and recording to any USB device, I have tried up to 1 Tb HDDs with success.

The CI+ designation is Technomates own and predates the adoption of “CI+” by major broadcasters. CI+ cams will NOT work in this receiver.

Results and Review
Very popular HD model, with familiar Technomate menu system and layout All at a great price
The TM5402HD scored high in all tests, giving a crisp picture in HD and SD, the ability to store your channel settings on a USB memory stick was useful as a backup, as starting from scratch, retuning a multi satellite system can be very time consuming, the channel favourites are stored too. Tuning was swift for the auto search functions, not so fast with blind scan, but to be expected and the receiver was thorough, not leaving any channels out on a search. Storing and putting channels into a favourite group was easy and will be familiar to anyone having a technomate receiver in the last few years, the menu system has remained very similar for years, with extensions of course for new functions.
The major sell for me would be the tuner , it is ideal for small motorised systems ie diseqc type motors, the tuner is really sensitive and will give much better than average results. For users with no previous experience of motors, the TM is a perfect , easy to learn, very functional box.
For ‘tinkerers’, there is software for the newcamd and ccam functions available on 3rd party websites, the unit functions well with internet connections and software.
It handled motorised dish and multi satellite dishes up to 4 LNBs via diseqc switch, without any hesitation. Although it is a few pounds more than the Icecrypt and other new HD products, with its superb backup from Technomate uk – available on the phone!! It is worth every penny. TM are on the ball with updates ( however slow to appear on their website )
With the latest software loaded, the multicrypt is capable of handling Conax, Viaccess, Iredeto and Cryptoworks cards. I totally recommend this receiver.
