Sept 2018 Update
The Hotbird (Russia 1 package) channels have been around a long time and are well established. 10 New Russian ( and Ukraine) channels added last month on the Astra satellite . if these are a permanent addition, it brings the total number of Russian language channels up considerably. A 2 lnb dish is required (channels on 2 satellites ) see Package Russia 2a. There are also a few more channels on the Eutelsat satellite which have a strong signal and can be received on a 3 lnb dish . For those needing both the Russian AND Ukraine channels, that is also possible – details are on the Ukraine page.
Russia 1 Dish
I recommend the 65cm Single lnb coated steel Technomate dish with tm1 or similar good quality lnb, having low noise and high gain characteristics. This combination gives great results in all uk areas.
Russia 2 Dish
An 80cm coated steel dish from Triax or Technomate, with 2 lnbs – tm1 or similar good lnb, with low noise and high gain. This combination gives good signal strength in most uk areas on both satellites
Russia 3 Dish
An 80cm coated steel dish from Triax or Technomate, with 3 lnbs – tm1 or similar good lnb, with low noise and high gain. This combination will work well in all areas, on all 3 satellites.
You can combine Russian packages with others by using a motorised dish or a multi satellite dish
If you want to combine Russian channels package with channels from another satellite, eg English Freesat , French or German, you can choose a motorised dish or a multi satellite dish . Many satellite receivers including the Amiko HD are capable of multi-satellite tuning.
Motorised 1m dish can receive any satellite from 30 degrees west to 42 east, in most places.
Multi satellite Wide angle dish with up to 4 or 5 satellites on a Toroidal dish with 40 degree spread
Multi sat ( up to 4 or 5 satellites ) on a standard Parabolic dish – 20 degree spread
